God's Message: You Don't Need to Shrink. You're Enough
What if the thing you call your biggest flaw is exactly what God wants to use?
"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."
— Zephaniah 3:17
There's a moment right before you walk into a room — maybe a family gathering, maybe a meeting at work — where you feel yourself physically contracting. Shoulders pulling back. Voice lowering. You make yourself smaller because somewhere deep down you believe that's what will make people accept you.
But here's the hard truth we need to sit with: that shrinking was never asked of you by the God who made you.
The Bible doesn't describe us as mistakes or afterthoughts. Psalm 139 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made — every part of us written before a single day came to be. Before you learned to apologize for your opinions, before you started dimming your light to avoid friction, God already called you His.
The problem is we carry shame like it belongs to us. We've convinced ourselves that to be loved we must be less — less noisy, less opinionated, less ourselves. But Jesus never contracted Himself for the comfort of others. He spoke hard truths at dinner tables. He broke religious rules for outsiders. He asked questions that left scholars furious. He was fully Himself, even when that cost Him everything.
The cross is the ultimate declaration: you matter so much that One greater than you died to restore your place in the family of God. Not because you performed well. Not because you finally got small enough. But because being made in God's image means you were never meant to shrink.
There's a story I share in today's video I couldn't fit here — about what happens when we finally believe we're enough and stop negotiating our worth. If this stirred something in you, sit with the video for a few minutes. You might find freedom in a place you didn't expect.
You are not too much. You are not too loud. You are not too opinionated. You are exactly the person God delights in, and He is not ashamed to call you His.
May you rest today in the truth that you are seen, known, and loved just as you are.
A prayer
Father, I thank You that You do not ask me to earn my place in Your family. Help me today to stop negotiating my worth with a world that keeps moving the goalposts. Teach me to rest in the truth that I am enough because You say I am. When the urge to shrink rises up in me, remind me of Your love that silences my fear. Let me walk into every room as the person You created me to be — not larger than life, and never smaller. In Jesus' name, Amen.
